Chapter 1 · Verse 46

Arjuna Visada Yoga

अर्जुनविषादयोग

यदि मामप्रतीकारमशस्त्रं शस्त्रपाणयः | धार्तराष्ट्रा रणे हन्युस्तन्मे क्षेमतरं भवेत् ||१-४६||

yadi māmapratīkāramaśastraṃ śastrapāṇayaḥ . dhārtarāṣṭrā raṇe hanyustanme kṣemataraṃ bhavet ||1-46||

In plain words

You should choose peaceful surrender and non-violence over fighting for selfish gains. When faced with conflict, it is better to lay down your weapons and accept pain than to create negative karma, the spiritual consequences of your actions, by hurting your own family. True peace comes from refusing to participate in mutual destruction.

Translation

1.46 If the well-armed sons of Dhrtarastra should slay me in battle, unresisting and unarmed, that will be better for me.
