Chapter 2 · Verse 12

Sankhya Yoga

सांख्ययोग

न त्वेवाहं जातु नासं न त्वं नेमे जनाधिपाः | न चैव न भविष्यामः सर्वे वयमतः परम् ||२-१२||

na tvevāhaṃ jātu nāsaṃ na tvaṃ neme janādhipāḥ . na caiva na bhaviṣyāmaḥ sarve vayamataḥ param ||2-12||

In plain words

You should feel deeply comforted knowing that your existence is eternal. You, and everyone around you, have always existed and will never cease to be. Beyond the temporary physical body lies your true spiritual essence, untouched by time, surviving death, and forever connected to the divine source of all life.

Translation

2.12 There never was a time when I did not exist, nor you, nor any of these kings of men. Nor will there be any time in future when all of us shall cease to be.

Meaning

Lord Krishna speaks here of the immortality of the Soul or the imperishable nature of the Self (Atman). The Soul exists in the three periods of time (past present and future). Man continues to exist even after the death of the physical body. There is life beyond.
